We have welcomed Luke into the world. :)
I am still at the hospital and was just freed from all of my IVs, so I wanted to do a short post. The whole C-Section experience was so surreal. It didn't hurt, but not being able to feel your legs for hours afterwards freaked me out. It's all worth it, though. He is beautiful and I can't imagine my life without him.
Breastfeeding has been a little challenging, but it's getting better. Luke has what they call "tongue tie" which is a frenulum that is attached too far forward under the tongue. It makes it hard to stick out your tongue or nurse very well. They gave me a nipple guard that helps, but we may have to get it clipped. It runs in the family - M had it and one of his brother's kids had it, as well.
M is already such a wonderful father. It has made me fall in love with him all over again. He has been so supportive when I'm trying to feed Luke or when he is being fussy. I feel so lucky that it overwhelms me.
I should be going home tomorrow and I will post a few pics. Thank you all for your support and prayers. It means so much to me.......and to Luke. I'm so glad he's finally here.

Congratulations, Kate and M. I, too, love the name--it was in our top 5 list for Baby. Can't wait to see the pics.
Both of my boys had a tongue tie. With Child, we never got it clipped because the pediatrician kept telling us it would stretch eventually and only to get it clipped if it causes speech problems. Now at 4 he has no speech problems (and it did stretch some, with time), but my entire breastfeeding experience with him was absolutely miserable. I ended up pretty much exclusively pumping for six months because getting him on the breast was so painful. When Baby was born with the same problem, I wasn't willing to wait and see this time around. We got it clipped--and I can not begin to tell you what a huge difference it made. The first three weeks were just awful, but as soon as we got it clipped, within a week, it improved SO much.
Anyway, I am not necessarily advocating that you get Luke's frenulum clipped right away, but definitely keep an eye on it and talk to a lactation consultant if bf-ing doesn't improve within a week. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions though.
Congratulations to you both! I'm so happy for you that things went well and wishing you continued success!

Congratulations!!! And Welcome Baby Luke!! yeah!!
C-sections are wierd, aren't they?! After my first one I was completely freaked out. Thankfully this time I knew what to expect more. Good luck with your recovery! And with nursing- hopefully getting the tongue tie clipped will really help a lot.
