Six Months Ago

*Children mentioned with pictures.*

Six months ago I got up, took a long shower, fixed my hair and met my son. The whole day is a blur. I remember being very hungry and very afraid I was going to get sick from the pain meds. I remember the sound of Luke's first cries (he was so pissed off) and how the doctor laughed because as soon as they pulled him out (butt first) he peed all over Dr. T.

Luke 2-25-08

It's only been six months, although sometimes it seems like a lifetime. So much has changed. Luke sleeps through the night. He sits up and babbles. He smiles when M walks in the room and he loves to eat zucchini. Well, he loves to eat, period.

I spent most of the first few months worried, worried, worried. Breastfeeding was difficult, hormones were raging, and life was turned upside down. I know that I did not appreciate the small moments as I should have. Everyone told me that this time would go by so quickly and they were right. I worry that I don't appreciate this time enough. Every day is full of work, school, dishes, laundry, and a million other things. All I really want to to is spend time with my baby. Soon, Luke's gummy smile will be full of teeth and then he'll be walking and talking. When I look at those first pictures of him I wonder what it will feel like to watch him go to college or get married. Will I still remember what it felt like to rock him to sleep?

We went to mass as a family for the first time since Luke was born. As I paused in prayer before the service began, the only words I could come up with were thank you, thank you, thank you.

I wake up every morning saying "thank you, thank you."
I already can't remember how small they were only 5.5 months ago; these days go too fast, don't they?
Enjoy every moment with your beautiful son!

What a beautiful baby!

And is that exasperation on his lips as he tries to figure out how to eat his toy? Or is it squealing with delight??? So cute!!!

My children are 2 and 1, respectively. I can still remember the sights, sounds, and emotions of both of their births. Now, they stand before me these little people, with wants, and hopes, and so much love. It never ceases to awe me.
Beautiful photos!

It does go fast and you will remember it all. My oldest is almost 12 and I still remember the rush of emotions I felt the first time I saw him. He also still cuddles with me (even though he is bigger than me)and I will cuddle with him as long as he lets me.

Thank God for our beautiful miracles!

Beautiful...love the ending line!

I can definitely relate to feeling like it's all going too fast an I'm not appreciating it enough (though that's gotten much easier now that my little one's a little older and I'm enjoying it more--I'm more of a toddler person than a baby person). But it's wonderful that we get their whole lives to enjoy being parents!

Happy 6 months Luke. And to you too, Kate. It IS amazing how time flies. Just t few minutes ago I was outside and saw a three week old baby. It seems impossible that Sacha was ever that little.

Luke is simply stunning. I can't stop staring at the pictures!

This is such a beautiful post. I soooo understand. Time is going by so quickly. I hate that I spend so much of my time being stressed out. That's not what I want to remember about this time with Brooklyn. The tiniest details of how it feels to hold her and rock her and see her smile at me. I hope all that remeains, not how stressed and upset I am so much of the time.
